Mirror Beneath the Wall

f/6.3, 1/15, ISO 720, 55mm Nikon D3200, Nikkor 18-55 kit lens This incredibly still and clear pond was at the top of a hike through Zion National Park in Utah, surrounded by rock walls towering hundreds of feet above. It was taken using the kit lens that came with the D3200, but still captured the reflection that could be hardly differentiated from the rock wall above. Surprising looking back that I used a 1/15 shutter speed – I imagine I must have either had a tripod or an unusually steady hand to get an acceptably crisp photo.

A Rocky Spring

f/14, 1/250, ISO 100, 50mm Canon EOS 6D, Canon 50mm f/1.8 It doesn't get much more “picture perfect” than the Rocky Mountains in central Colorado. This was taken during late spring - early summer, with thunder rumbling in the distance behind me.

50 Shades of Blue

f/4, 1/2000 ISO 400, 70mm Canon EOS 6D, Tamron 70-300mm VC USD Without this photo, would you believe me when I said the sky looked like a painter’s color tray? Clearly defined were the shades of blue, separated between shadows cast by the sun and clouds of a dissipating supercell thunderstorm.

Kansas Colors

1/25, ISO 100, 14mm Canon EOS 6D, Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 At the conclusion of the day spent storm chasing, this magnificent double rainbow appeared. It just so happened that about 10 seconds after I took this, Kansas Highway Patrol stopped and took an interest in what I was doing on the side of the road. As always with the Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm, the meta-data did not save the manual aperture setting for this photo.
